Have you ever wondered why the doctor asks you to stick out your tongue when you go for a check-up?
Well, I read that medical doctors believe that the condition of your tongue reflects your overall health. If the condition of your tongue can determine your overall physical health then certainly it can be used to measure your spiritual health. The tongue is a small part of the body, but it can really make some great boasts. (James 3:5)
The things that flow from your mouth can either help or hurt, build or destroy, produce life or cause death for you and others. I bet few consider just how impactful words can be. How you speak discloses much about your spiritual health. Jesus said, “The mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” (Luke 6:45). Whatever is stored in your heart, whether good or evil, will come out in your speech.
So, what types of words are coming from your heart? Are they encouraging or belittling? Are they loving or full of hatred, jealousy or envy? Are the words coming from you filled with fear, doubt, and hopelessness or are they full of faith? Are your words truthful or do they contain “alternative facts?” If your desire is to be spiritually healthy then you must examine your tongue.
Ooh! That is good. AHHHHH!
